My name is David Long and I’m the golf geek at Not In The Pro Shop

‘Golf’ because I’ve been playing for over 35 years (managed to get down to 7, but now hovering around 13).

‘Geek’ because I have used the web to promote companies, people and products since 1994.

My bright idea was to create a golf blog that searches out the fantastic golf gear that is being designed by independent brands, and as the name suggests, you won’t be able to find it in your normal pro shop. Now it’s up and running I’m so delighted.

I like to blog about the amazing and diverse range of independent golf products, and who knows I might eventually start selling these unique golf gifts directly. But in the meantime, if you see anything you like, let me know, it’s always good to get feedback from other golfers.

Oh, by the way, that really is me sat in the golf buggy belonging to the European Ryder Cup Team Captain. Talk about having to move quickly to get that photo!

Don’t forget to register for my newsletter so you can get product alerts and link backs to the great stories that I will be sharing via this site. I also publish links to free to enter golf prize draws, so if you want to win some great golf equipment, for free, you definitely need to subscribe to the email newsletter.

Finally, if you like lots of golf news, follow me on Twitter @NotInTheProShop – I usually tweet golf news from the tour, including retweets of the more interesting stuff posted by the tour pros.

Oh, and I almost forgot, there is a page on Facebook, I post stuff there that doesn’t always get posted here – you have been warned, if you don’t want to miss out on some great golf content, then you need to follow me on Facebook as well. Just use the links to all my social media which are at the top of the column on the right of this page.

I’ve been using a Callaway FT-5 10.5 loft for the last three years. Recently I won a John Letters Master Model Tour Driver with a stiffer shaft and 9.0 loft. It had a lower flight path, so whilst the carry of both clubs is the same, the John Letters is rolling out a further 15 yards. But I just didn’t like it so that went to a good home via ebay!

In the spring of 2013 I replaced my Adams 3 & 5 woods with a Callaway FT iz 3 wood. 13 degrees loft with a stiff shaft. My irons are custom fitted Titleist DCi990, but I don’t bother with the 3 iron – I need to find a good Rescue / Hybrid to fill in the gap. I use a Vokey 56 wedge and might add a 64 lob this year.

Finally, my putter is a classic Bronty Silver Knight which I have used for the last 30+ years. I am thinking about getting it pimped by the guys at Golf Loft.

Hi there! Do you know if they make any plugins to help with Search Engine Optimization? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good results. If you know of any please share. Cheers!

Hello! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any issues with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing a few months of hard work due to no backup. Do you have any solutions to protect against hackers?

Sorry to hear that you lost your data. I have built many websites and there are two things that you must do. The first is to set up an automated back-up of your website. This is really easy to do. Secondly, there are many things that you can do to protect yourself from hackers. Make sure your CMS is the latest version, make sure that all the plugins are the latest version, and don’t use standard usernames and passwords.
